UPDATE: THE FIGHT TO REBUILD NORTH CAROLINA

North Carolina is still struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.  

In the initial weeks, we focused on fulfilling urgent needs—delivering generators, heaters, chainsaws, fuel, medical supplies, winter coats, and Starlink systems. Since then, we've spent considerable time on the ground in Western North Carolina, assessing the situation to ensure every donated dollar has the maximum impact on families affected by this disaster.  

Now, months later, the priorities have shifted. Immediate needs have been met, but the next, more daunting phase has begun: rebuilding.  

Thousands of families were displaced, living in campers, churches, or on relatives’ couches. They faced the overwhelming reality of losing everything and the monumental task of rebuilding their lives. Many of the homes destroyed by these floods were not in designated flood zones—leaving families with no insurance money and minimal FEMA assistance.  

While we can’t erase their pain, we can help ease their burden of rebuilding and provide a little hope and relief to families who would otherwise have no means to recover.  

REBUILDING COMMUNITIES: ONE HOME AT A TIME

Our focus has shifted to rebuilding homes for those most affected. We’re partnering with local builders to provide the resources to construct five new homes along the Toe River in the Relief and Green Mountain communities. Demolition and site preparation are already underway, with the home completion projected by May 2025.  

This is just the beginning. Our goal is to rebuild these five homes and then move to the next community, helping even more families reclaim their lives.
