Our Prop Q campaign goal is $250,000. We have raised $150k+ already. We aim to raise $50,000+ at this event at the Mayfield's home. With your donation, we will have the resources to fund voter education, outreach, and turn out people to vote against this ballot measure to increase property taxes 20%.
We have no max contribution limit. We have a $25k online donation limit per day per person. But we take wires, Zelle, and can pick up checks above this amount.
Vote NO to Prop Q
NO to New Taxes.
NO to unrestricted funding of pet projects without voter approval
For the average homeowner, this will be an increase of almost $2,000 more in property taxes this next year in perpetuity. The City cannot be trusted to be good stewards with funds.
HOW BAD IS AUSTIN'S SPENDING PROBLEM?
One way to measure it is to measure our other large Texas cities by population and annual budget size and compare them:
- Houston~ 2,318,657 as of Jan 1, 2024. Chron~$7.00 billion total budget (FY 2026). City of Houston+1 • General Fund ~$3.03 billion. City of Houston+1
- San Antonio~ 1,526,656 as of July 1, 2024. Census.gov+2CultureMap San Antonio+2~$3.96 billion total budget (FY 2025). TPR • General Fund ~$1.67 billion. San Antonio
- Dallas~ 1,326,087 as of July 1, 2024. Census.gov~$4.97 billion budget for FY 2024‑25. Dallas News
- Austin~ 993,588 as of 2024. CultureMap San Antonio+1~$5.9 billion for FY 2024‑25. Austin Texas+1 • For FY 2025‑26, approved budget $6.3 billion. Austin Texas+1
To further compare, take the budget size divided by population to equal the cost per city resident:
- AUSTIN - $6,344 (city government annual cost per resident)
- DALLAS - $3,748 (city government annual cost per resident)
- HOUSTON - $3,019 (city government annual cost per resident)
- SAN ANTONIO - $2,595 (city government annual cost per resident)
Put another way:
- Austin’s city budget is 59% larger than Dallas (per capita).
- Austin’s city budget is 47.5% larger than Houston (per capita).
- Austin’s city budget is 41% larger than San Antonio (per capita).
We pay some of the highest property taxes in Texas and in the USA. We don't need to be taxed out of our homes, neighborhoods, and communities. The City of Austin gets enough. Vote NO on Prop Q.
