Hank Levy Jazz Foundation, Inc.

The Hank Levy Jazz Foundation, Inc. (HLJF), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is seeking individual support for Hank: An “Aural” History, a forthcoming oral history celebrating the life, music, and enduring influence of legendary American jazz bandleader, composer, and educator Henry “Hank” Levy (1927–2001).

Slated for publication in Fall 2027, during Levy’s birth centennial, the book will bring together exclusive interviews with family, friends, colleagues, students, and fellow musicians, alongside Levy’s archival recordings, writings, photographs, and handwritten musical charts. HLJF has partnered with award-winning author and filmmaker Mathew Klickstein to bring this unique story to life.

We invite you to become part of preserving Hank Levy’s remarkable legacy. Your personal contribution will help HLJF conduct interviews, preserve important archival materials, and produce a lasting record of a musician whose work continues to inspire new generations—including through his iconic composition “Whiplash,” which inspired Damien Chazelle’s Oscar-winning 2014 film. Every gift, large or small, makes a difference.

Contributions of $250 or more will be listed in the Acknowledgements section of the publication.
