Petition to Rep. Jeff Hurd, Sen. Bennet, and Sen. Hickenlooper:
Dear Rep. Hurd, Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper, and all GORP sponsors,
We, the citizens of Colorado and friends of the Western Slope, call on you to withdraw the Gunnison Outdoor Resources Protection Act (H.R. 3421) immediately.
This bill would lock away more than 730,000 acres under new layers of federal control, freeze motorized and bicycle access to today’s limited routes, and order permanent road removals that isolate families, outfitters, and first responders from the land they depend on.
GORP hands our economy and freedom of movement to Washington politicians who know little of Colorado’s landscape or way of life. It mirrors the same agenda behind the Dolores River Monument and wolf releases — policies that push people out while pretending to “protect” nature.
Coloradans deserve self-governance, not another D.C. experiment that turns our open country into off-limits country.
Stop GORP. Keep Colorado free. Keep control of our lands with the people who live here.
