Pegge Haywood (b. 1924; d. 2006) was a dedicated and exemplary Cabarrus County citizen. Pegge, a lifelong Republican, attended several national conventions as a delegate. In honor of Pegge the GOP board created an annual scholarship award to be given to a college-bound high school student who displays a commitment to the party by his or her activities.

Each year, graduating Cabarrus County High School Students are invited to apply for the Pegge Haywood Scholarship offered by the Cabarrus County Republican Party. It is our hope that the Pegge Lee Haywood Scholarship will encourage and support young people who follow Pegge’s example and dedicate themselves to public service, charitable work, and a commitment to Republican ideals.
