Michigan election law (MCL 169.252) allows individuals, including lawyers, to make a contribution of up to $7,150 for a Supreme Court candidate. The maximum allowable political action committee contribution under state law is $71,500 per candidate. These limitations are applicable to political action committees organized under Michigan law; additional limitations apply to out-of-state political action committees.
However, as to lawyers, Canon 7 of the Michigan Code of Judicial Conduct prohibits a judicial campaign committee from soliciting more than $100 per lawyer per candidate. If you are a lawyer, and the solicitation accompanying this response and request card requests an amount greater than $100, please regard this request as informative and not a solicitation for more than $100.
Michigan law requires candidate committees to report the name, home address, business address (principal place of business), occupation and employer for each individual whose aggregate contributions exceed $100 in a calendar year.
